Projects in the area of scattering of light in rough surfaces

Vector electromagnetic scattering from rough surfaces with infinite gradients

This project involves calculations of the scattering of light from 2D rough surfaces with infinite gradients. The method uses a generalization of the Kirchhoff approximation to the Stratton-Chu equation.

Design and construction of a scatterometer for visible light scattering from 2D rough surfaces.

This project is on the design, caracterisation, tests of and measurements with a scatterometer based on an elliptical mirror for 2D rough surfaces which scatter light in a hemisphere above the surface.

Numerical Calculations of the scattering of light from randomly rough surfaces with rectangular shaped grooves.

This is a project on the generalization of the Kirchhoff method to permit calculation of the light scattered from rough surfaces with infinite gradients (e.g. rectangular shape grooves).

Scattering of light for characterisation of triangular groove surfaces

This project uses the Kirchhoff approximation to calculate the parameters of a triangular shaped groove rough surface produced by chemically etching Indium Phosphide (InP) surfaces.
