Mueller polarimeters ( page under construction)

A Mueller polarimeter measures the change in polarization of a beam when it interacts with an object or sample. The polarization of a beam of light is described completely by a Stokes vector of 4 elements. A Mueller matrix relates an input Stokes vector to an output Stokes vector and so is given by a 4x4 matrix.

Mueller polarimeter: on the left is a polarizer and two variable retarders to generate the incident polarization, on the right is a Stokes polarimeter to detect the polarization.
The sample goes in between these two systems.
